الدخان

حمٓ﴿1﴾

Ḥā, Meem.1

Translation: Sahih International

وَٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِ﴿2﴾

By the clear Book,

Translation: Sahih International

إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ فِى لَيْلَةٍ مُّبَـٰرَكَةٍ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ﴿3﴾

Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night.1 Indeed, We were to warn [mankind].

Translation: Sahih International

فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ﴿4﴾

Therein [i.e., on that night] is made distinct1 every precise matter -

Translation: Sahih International

أَمْرًا مِّنْ عِندِنَآ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَ﴿5﴾

[Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger]

Translation: Sahih International

رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ﴿6﴾

As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing,

Translation: Sahih International

رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ﴿7﴾

Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain.

Translation: Sahih International

لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ ۖ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ﴿8﴾

There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers.

Translation: Sahih International

بَلْ هُمْ فِى شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ﴿9﴾

But they are in doubt, amusing themselves.

Translation: Sahih International

فَٱرْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِى ٱلسَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِينٍ﴿10﴾

Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke

Translation: Sahih International

يَغْشَى ٱلنَّاسَ ۖ هَـٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ﴿11﴾

Covering the people; this is a painful torment.

Translation: Sahih International

رَّبَّنَا ٱكْشِفْ عَنَّا ٱلْعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَ﴿12﴾

[They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers."

Translation: Sahih International

أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ وَقَدْ جَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مُّبِينٌ﴿13﴾

How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger.

Translation: Sahih International

ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا۟ مُعَلَّمٌ مَّجْنُونٌ﴿14﴾

Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman."

Translation: Sahih International

إِنَّا كَاشِفُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ قَلِيلًا ۚ إِنَّكُمْ عَآئِدُونَ﴿15﴾

Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief].

Translation: Sahih International

يَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ ٱلْبَطْشَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ إِنَّا مُنتَقِمُونَ﴿16﴾

The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution.

Translation: Sahih International

۞ وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ كَرِيمٌ﴿17﴾

And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger [i.e., Moses],

Translation: Sahih International

أَنْ أَدُّوٓا۟ إِلَىَّ عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ﴿18﴾

[Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allāh.1 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger,"

Translation: Sahih International

وَأَن لَّا تَعْلُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّىٓ ءَاتِيكُم بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ﴿19﴾

And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allāh. Indeed, I have come to you with clear evidence.

Translation: Sahih International

وَإِنِّى عُذْتُ بِرَبِّى وَرَبِّكُمْ أَن تَرْجُمُونِ﴿20﴾

And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me.1

Translation: Sahih International

وَإِن لَّمْ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ لِى فَٱعْتَزِلُونِ﴿21﴾

But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone."

Translation: Sahih International

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوْمٌ مُّجْرِمُونَ﴿22﴾

And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people.

Translation: Sahih International

فَأَسْرِ بِعِبَادِى لَيْلًا إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ﴿23﴾

[Allāh said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued.

Translation: Sahih International

وَٱتْرُكِ ٱلْبَحْرَ رَهْوًا ۖ إِنَّهُمْ جُندٌ مُّغْرَقُونَ﴿24﴾

And leave the sea in stillness.1 Indeed, they are an army to be drowned."

Translation: Sahih International

كَمْ تَرَكُوا۟ مِن جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ﴿25﴾

How much they left behind of gardens and springs

Translation: Sahih International

وَزُرُوعٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ﴿26﴾

And crops and noble sites

Translation: Sahih International

وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا۟ فِيهَا فَـٰكِهِينَ﴿27﴾

And comfort wherein they were amused.

Translation: Sahih International

كَذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَأَوْرَثْنَـٰهَا قَوْمًا ءَاخَرِينَ﴿28﴾

Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people.

Translation: Sahih International

فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنظَرِينَ﴿29﴾

And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved.

Translation: Sahih International

وَلَقَدْ نَجَّيْنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ مِنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْمُهِينِ﴿30﴾

And We certainly saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment -

Translation: Sahih International

مِن فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ﴿31﴾

From Pharaoh. Indeed, he was a haughty one among the transgressors.

Translation: Sahih International

وَلَقَدِ ٱخْتَرْنَـٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ عَلَى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ﴿32﴾

And We certainly chose them by knowledge over [all] the worlds.

Translation: Sahih International

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَـٰٓؤٌا۟ مُّبِينٌ﴿33﴾

And We gave them of signs that in which there was a clear trial.

Translation: Sahih International

إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَيَقُولُونَ﴿34﴾

Indeed, these [disbelievers] are saying,

Translation: Sahih International

إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّا مَوْتَتُنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُنشَرِينَ﴿35﴾

"There is not but our first death, and we will not be resurrected.

Translation: Sahih International

فَأْتُوا۟ بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ﴿36﴾

Then bring [back] our forefathers, if you should be truthful."

Translation: Sahih International

أَهُمْ خَيْرٌ أَمْ قَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ مُجْرِمِينَ﴿37﴾

Are they better or the people of Tubbaʿ1 and those before them? We destroyed them, [for] indeed, they were criminals.

Translation: Sahih International

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَـٰعِبِينَ﴿38﴾

And We did not create the heavens and earth and that between them in play.

Translation: Sahih International

مَا خَلَقْنَـٰهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ﴿39﴾

We did not create them except in truth, but most of them do not know.

Translation: Sahih International

إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ مِيقَـٰتُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ﴿40﴾

Indeed, the Day of Judgement is the appointed time for them all -

Translation: Sahih International

يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى مَوْلًى عَن مَّوْلًى شَيْـًٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ﴿41﴾

The Day when no relation1 will avail a relation at all, nor will they be helped -

Translation: Sahih International

إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ﴿42﴾

Except those [believers] on whom Allāh has mercy. Indeed, He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

Translation: Sahih International

إِنَّ شَجَرَتَ ٱلزَّقُّومِ﴿43﴾

Indeed, the tree of zaqqūm

Translation: Sahih International

طَعَامُ ٱلْأَثِيمِ﴿44﴾

Is food for the sinful.

Translation: Sahih International

كَٱلْمُهْلِ يَغْلِى فِى ٱلْبُطُونِ﴿45﴾

Like murky oil, it boils within bellies

Translation: Sahih International

كَغَلْىِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ﴿46﴾

Like the boiling of scalding water.

Translation: Sahih International

خُذُوهُ فَٱعْتِلُوهُ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ﴿47﴾

[It will be commanded], "Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Hellfire,

Translation: Sahih International

ثُمَّ صُبُّوا۟ فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِۦ مِنْ عَذَابِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ﴿48﴾

Then pour over his head from the torment of scalding water."

Translation: Sahih International

ذُقْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْكَرِيمُ﴿49﴾

[It will be said], "Taste! Indeed, you are the honored, the noble!1

Translation: Sahih International

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَمْتَرُونَ﴿50﴾

Indeed, this is what you used to dispute."

Translation: Sahih International

إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍ﴿51﴾

Indeed, the righteous will be in a secure place:

Translation: Sahih International

فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ﴿52﴾

Within gardens and springs,

Translation: Sahih International

يَلْبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ﴿53﴾

Wearing [garments of] fine silk and brocade, facing each other.

Translation: Sahih International

كَذَٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجْنَـٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ﴿54﴾

Thus. And We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes.

Translation: Sahih International

يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَـٰكِهَةٍ ءَامِنِينَ﴿55﴾

They will call therein for every [kind of] fruit - safe and secure.

Translation: Sahih International

لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا ٱلْمَوْتَ إِلَّا ٱلْمَوْتَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ ۖ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ﴿56﴾

They will not taste death therein except the first death, and He will have protected them from the punishment of Hellfire

Translation: Sahih International

فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ﴿57﴾

As bounty from your Lord. That is what is the great attainment.

Translation: Sahih International

فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَـٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ﴿58﴾

And indeed, We have eased it [i.e., the Qur’ān] in your tongue that they might be reminded.

Translation: Sahih International

فَٱرْتَقِبْ إِنَّهُم مُّرْتَقِبُونَ﴿59﴾

So watch, [O Muḥammad]; indeed, they are watching [for your end].

Translation: Sahih International
